Ramon, Isabela – A 52-year-old ‘pandesal’ vendor instantly died after she was hit by a fallen coconut tree during the onslaught of Super Typhoon Egay.

Not minding the adverse weather condition, Ofelia Daculan, the reported sole casualty of the recent disaster in Isabela, was doing her daily routine of selling ‘pandesal’ while riding a bike with a sidecar in Purok 2, Villa Carmen, Ramon, at 5 a.m. on July 26.

With the strong winds brought by the typhoon, a coconut tree fell, crashing into her head, resulting in her death.

The Local Disaster Risk and Reduction Management of said area immediately responded after being informed of the incident, but when they checked Daculan, she was already lifeless.

It was known from her neighbors that Daculan would always leave her house every morning, rain or shine, to sell ‘pandesal’ in Barangays Pagrang-ayan and Villa Carmen.

In a press briefing earlier today, July 27, Sunshine Asuncion of the Office of the Civil Defense Region 2 announced that there were no recorded casualties and injuries in other provinces of the region, aside from Isabela.

Meantime, data revealed there were 4,440 families or 14,439 individuals affected by typhoon Egay in Cagayan Valley region.

In the Province of Cagayan, 25 towns were affected, 5 in Batanes and Isabela, and 3 in Nueva Vizcaya.
