Parents seek help for 12-yr.-old daughter with Acute Leukemia

Instead of going to school to attend classes, the 12-year-old Leika Ace Libnao spends her days at the hospital after being diagnosed with Acute Leukemia.

Said disease is a cancer of the white blood cells. Acute Leukemia usually requires immediate treatment as it progresses aggressively.

Leika’s parents, Ronald of Buaya, Balbalan, and Rona of Tabon, Leyte relayed that their eldest child first experienced the symptoms on November 4, 2022. Back then, her blood pressure was very low, she was always dizzy, and her fever was on and off.

She was admitted to the hospital on December 9.

On January 4, 2023, however, that was when they were told Leika has Acute Leukemia. The confirmation was released on January 19.

Now Leika needs a series of chemotherapy at the Eastern Visayas Medical Center.

High Fighting Spirit

Rona and Ronald describe their daughter as a diligent student. She is a grade 7 student and she loves nothing other than going to school.

However, as much as she wants to attend her classes, her condition kept her imprisoned at the hospital.

“Lagi na siyang absent sa school kasi lagi siyang nahihilo pero sa ngayon totally na stop schooling niya,” they said.

Nevertheless, their daughter is tough and has a high fighting spirit that she will overcome her current condition.

Diabetic dad

Rona is a housewife. She looks after their three children while Ronald is working as a security guard. Apart from their daily expenses, the couple also has to cover the maintenance of Ronald who has diabetes.

Rona and Ronald have already exhausted all their resources to cover the first hospitalization and medication for Leika. With a limited source of income, they have difficulty providing for all the hospital needs of their daughter.
