Updated: Sep 18, 2022

Gamu, Isabela- A 65-year-old farmer who was earlier reported missing by his son was found dead in his cornfield in Barangay District II of Gamu, Isabela.

The missing farmer was discovered at around 8:00 on the morning of September 13, 2022.

Gamu Police Station, through 92.9 Brigada News FM Cauayan, relayed that they received a report from a resident who saw the victim’s body, prompting them to respond. Later, the police saw the dead man with his body partially burnt.

Police identified the victim as Fortunato Agub, 65, a farmer and a retired soldier, and a resident of said barangay.

Based on the initial investigation by the authorities, Agub went to his cornfield located near a river before the incident happened.

Police said someone saw the victim trying to stop the flames that broke out in his cornfield.

With the incident, the police hinted that Agub may have been suffocated by the smoke he inhaled from the burning leaves that caused him to lose consciousness and fall near the fire.

The police said the victim’s family declined to perform an autopsy on Agub’s remains.
