Pasil coop in Kalinga gets P.6M rice mill from DOST

Since the municipality was named as the Regional Best Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) in Cordillera, Pasil has been receiving various aid, including cash grants and product promotion nationwide.


To recall, the community was awarded a project worth P200,000 by the Department of Science and Technology-Cordillera upon succeeding in its campaign during the search for regional Best CEST in 2021. Pasil CEST likewise advanced to the top 6 finalists at the national level.


On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, DOST-Cordillera through the Provincial Science and Technology Office - Kalinga turned over P602,563.50 worth of rice milling equipment to Pasil Multipurpose Cooperative (PAMPCO), one beneficiary of Pasil CEST.

The milling equipment, PSTO-Kalinga said, shall be utilized for the mechanization of the post-harvest processing of the cooperative’s heirloom or “unoy” rice that is considered as the One Town One Product (OTOP) of the municipality.


More DOST interventions


The provincial science and technology office further states that more interventions shall be provided by the department to the cooperative for the holistic improvement of their product. Such interventions include laboratory analyses, packaging and labelling, and technical trainings.

Moreover, the DOST-Kalinga allotted P402,563.50 from its Local Grants-In-Aid (LGIA) program to augment needed project funds.


Meantime, Pasil government led by Municipal Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. extended gratitude to the department for its continued assistance and committed to making use of the equipment as intended.
