Pasil, Kalinga – After qualifying for the 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award, Pasil municipality headed by Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr. obtained access to the P5 million SGLG Incentive Fund for their development initiatives.

Pasil is among the 274 municipalities in the country to receive the highest award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) over a two-day ceremony from Dec. 14 to 15 at the Manila Hotel.

The award, explained Malannag, is a prestigious recognition that gives distinction to remarkable local government performance across several areas by upholding the standards of transparency, integrity, and service delivery.

Under Republic Act No. 11292, the SGLG is part of the DILG's performance oversight function which involves the administration of performance assessment tools, and awards and incentive initiatives for LGUs. Through the program, the agency recognizes remarkable efforts from LGUs in pursuing the general welfare of their constituency and in enforcing existing laws within their jurisdiction.

Pasil envisions becoming the primary source of renewable energy and a center of agro-ecotourism in Northern Luzon while operating within a healthy ecological framework, as announced during the awarding ceremony. As the First Indigenous Slow Food Community of the Philippines, the town possesses a vast cultural and natural heritage.

Mayor Malannag, in a statement, said the SGLG award validates the exemplary performance of the people of Pasil, despite the unfavorable COVID-19 pandemic period.

He thanked his constituents for their cooperation and collective efforts which have contributed to their success in qualifying for said award. To attain the same award in the upcoming years is his challenge to the community.
