Pasil LGU pays tribute to German Doctors for 5-year free medical service

Pasil, Kalinga – Pasil government paid tribute to the German Doctors who for the past five years rendered medical services to the people in the locality.


The honor, according to Mayor Alfredo “Chao-ig” Malannag Jr., is a way to express gratitude and show the people appreciate the sacrifices made.


In 2017, the German Doctors Inc. under Medical Director Dr. Gerhard Steinmaier signed a five-year contract with the local government of Pasil led by Mayor Malannag Jr., said Municipal Administrator Milagros Batalao.

Jocelyn Pasayon, the staff of the incorporation relayed that the idea of the deployment of German doctors in Pasil was solicited from former Provincial Health Officer Dr. Romulo Gaerlan, who recommended the municipality for being one of the geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA) that needed medical support.


After forging a Memorandum of Agreement with Pasil LGU, some 41 German doctors took turn in providing free consultation and medication to the community.


Usually, two doctors were deployed in the barangays in every six weeks, according to Pasayon. They were duly assisted by eight Filipino staff.


Apart from the provision of medical consultations, the incorporation likewise sponsored free cataract surgeries to prevent blindness and severe visual impairment of some residents including the elderly.


Additionally, the foreign doctors and staff delivered 33-day medical training to 92 Barangay Health Workers (BHW) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS).


The training was said to be among their most significant accomplishments because of the lifelong knowledge they imparted.


Further, the German doctors gave other assistance to the municipality especially in times of calamities such as the recent earthquake that destroyed more than a hundred houses. They pledged to give aid to the 14 families whose houses were totally wrecked by the earthquake.

Pasil adopts Medical Director Steinmaier


Medical Director Steinmaier, who volunteered to extend medical services in various barangays in the municipality since the COVID-19 pandemic, was adopted as a son of Pasil.

Through the resolution concurred by the municipal council, approved by Mayor Malannag, Steinmaier was assigned a native name of “Gamongan.” The resolution was handed to the doctor during the recently concluded tribute party held in Tucol.

Parting from the municipality, the German doctors and staff thanked the hospitality and support of the Pasil government particularly the Municipal Health Office headed by Dr. Aldrin Siwao and local officials.


“To the municipality we are sure that the success of the program will be a sustainable in terms of BHW training where the "HILFE DIE BLEIBT" meaning “Help that Remain” will apply. We are grateful to their strong support, their humility and hospitality…We will be missing Pasil..” they expressed.
