Pasil raises health awareness in a bid to avert stunting in the municipality

Pasil, Kalinga - To raise awareness about proper nutrition and promote slow food, the Municipal Local Government of Pasil took part in various activities of Kalinga Nutrition Committee, making the residents in their area cognizant of the importance of being health conscious.


The activities were participated in as a bid to avert stunting in the municipality, a case that is still prevalent in places where families are less knowledgeable of the benefits of good nutrition.


Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Marjorie Silawon, in a statement, said they are one with the health advocacy of the National Nutrition Council (NNC), especially that the malnutrition and obesity in Pasil are increasing.


“Adda met lang malnutrition and stunting problems mi and umad-ado met ti obesity kadagituy ubbing ages 0-59 months. We are likewise promoting our slow food activities mi ditoy Pasil to address adult overweight,” Silawon stated.

Nutrition Activities enjoined by Pasil


As the province marks the Nutrition month for this year, Barangay Guina-ang will be representing Pasil in the ‘NutriSong’ contest to be conducted during the culminating activity of the province.


Other activities include a creative, healthy baby and mother story of F1000 (First 1000 days) Journey ni Mommy at Baby; Nutri draw and tell participated by daycare center; Tiktok Modern Dance participated by elementary schools; Laking 1000 spoken word poetry contest participated by senior high school; short storytelling of Kaya ni Mommy, Kaya ni Daddy; slogan; song; and jingle contest.


Silawon said the final submission already ended last Monday, July 5. Entries will be judged by July 20 at the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO).

The top three winners will be receiving cash prizes. The first prize for the first 5 activities will be P1,500, P1,000 for the second prize, and P800 for the third prize.


Meanwhile, the first prize for the song and jingle contest will be P2,500, P2,000 for the second prize, and P1,000 for the third prize.


According to Silawon, the winners will automatically be forwarded after judging to the province-wide contest.


“Dapat lahat suportado ang Philippine plan of action for nutrition. By working together, we can end all forms of malnutrition. Let us scale up critical actions in the first 1000 days of life,” Silawon concluded.
