Pasil youth join campaign against illegal drugs


Pasil, Kalinga – To increase awareness among the sector, the youth of Pasil is now participating with the local government under the leadership of Municipal Mayor Alfredo Malannag Jr. in the campaign against illegal drugs.


On October 13, 2021, the local government have initiated activities for the youth such as poster and slogan contest held at the Covered Court, Amdalao, Guina-ang to actively involve the sector, through the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) members and Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) in relation with the ordinance entitled, “Campaign Activity against Illegal Drugs among the Youth in the Municipality of Pasil, Kalinga.”


The campaign was institutionalized through the initiative of Councilor Ronnie Bawalan.


“Dayta ket tapnu ma-enlighthen dagiti youth iti bad effect of illegal drugs su nga dagiay output ti nangabak mai-taurpulin tu a mai-hang kadagiti schools in Pasil and Barangay halls tapnu diay school paylang ket mabasan to dagiti u-ubbing and at least aware dan tu ti epekto ti maiparit nga agas,” Councilor Bawalan explained.


Anti-illegal Drugs Discussion by PDEA-Kalinga


Before the contest proper, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Kalinga discussed and presented the National and Provincial Drug Situation, Types of Dangerous Drugs, Ill-Effects of Dangerous Drugs, and Unlawful Acts and Penalties under Republic Act 9165 Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.


The agency likewise lectured on Participation of the Family, Students, Teachers and School Authorities in the Enforcement of RA 9165; and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), Civil Service Commission (CSC), and other Issuances Related to the Enforcement of RA 9165.


Said discussion was participated by selected elementary and high school students, teachers, SB and MADAC members, and other Municipal officials.

Poster and Slogan Making Contest


Centered on the theme “Share Facts on Drugs, Save Lives,” the Slogan and Poster Making Contest were conducted after the lectures.


PDEA-Kalinga in a press release informed that the participants in the Slogan Making Contest were winners in the Barangay level of the same activity, while participants in the Poster Making Contest were winners in their own school contest.


Slogan outputs were judged upon by originality, relevance, rhythm and rhyme, and impact while the criteria for posters were brevity, clarity of message, relevance, and visual impact.


Winners of the contested events


Pupils from Dangtalan Elementary School emerged as the winner of the slogan making contest with their piece “Embracing Drugs in your life will take away your life.”


Representatives of Barangay Dalupa placed second, and the third was Barangay Pugong.

Meanwhile, students from the Pasil National High School-Tucol Annex won the poster making contest and students from PNHS-Amdalao got both second and third places.


Prizes for Winners


According to Bawalan, first placers of both contests received P1,200, second placers got P1,000 while P800 was given to third placers.


The winning piece from slogan and poster making will be reproduced in tarpaulins to be displayed on all elementary and high school levels.


“Su a maiwaras kadagiti eskwelaan tapnu during flag ceremony ket ma-explain for few minutes. Nu ammu dan ti bad effects of illegal drugs during their elementary and high school stages ket I am sure it follows for the rest of their lives,” the councilor stressed.


PDEA-Kalinga disclosed that the winning pieces will be used as the municipal’s official slogan and poster in its campaign against illegal drugs.


Message to participants and other youth


Councilor Bawalan congratulated all those who participated, hoping for the continuous development of their talent and skills and that they can impart to their family and community, especially the youth, the negative effects of illegal drugs.


“To the youth, I encourage you to join the activities, especially the campaign against illegal drugs. This is for you to save lives, including the next generation,” Bawalan underscored.
