Santiago City, Isabela- A 42-year-old pastor is now in police custody after he allegedly attempted to kill his student lover at the latter’s boarding house in Barangay Rosario, Santiago City.

One of the investigators of the case, Police Staff Sergeant Jan Ghran Bayang, during his interview with a local media outlet, said that the pastor attempted to kill the victim after she threatened to expose their secret affair.

The officer did not disclose the particular time when the crime happened.

As he didn't want his reputation to be destroyed and the possibility of his wife finding out, the pastor broke into the student’s boarding house while she was sleeping to retrieve her cellphone and delete their chat messages.

While he was taking the cellphone, the young woman suddenly woke up, prompting him to stab her with a sharp object and repeatedly bang her head against the wall.

Believing the victim was dead, the suspect fled the crime scene and returned home to Barangay San Fermin, Cauayan City, bringing with him the victim's cellphone as well as her wallet with IDs and around P20,000 in cash.

Fortunately, the 19-year-old victim survived the suspect's attack and was able to report the matter to the authorities.

Upon receiving the report, the police immediately launched an investigation until they identified and located the accused.

The pastor did not deny the crime he committed during the investigation, and is now being held at the Custodial Facility in Santiago City. He will be charged with robbery and frustrated homicide.
