Peñablanca cop nabbed for extortion

Cagayan, Philippines – A police officer in Peñablanca was arrested yesterday, April 30 for extorting money from captured illegal gamblers.

The police officer was nabbed by the Philippine National Police Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group.

Peñablanca Police Chief, PMaj. Rohaina Asalan in a press statement through PRO2 News Blast said that, they received a complaint about the extortion after the conduct of an anti-gambling operation by the intelligence unit in said town.

“Allegedly meron silang pinakawalan na hindi nai-report sa police station at itong kanilang pinakawalan ay siningil niya kapalit ng liberty nila,” she said.

Asalan recalled that during her stint as Chief of Police, the suspect is performing well along with his comrades and this is the first time he was involved in such activity.

“During my stint as Chief of Police of Penablanca, maayos naman ang kanyang pagta-trabaho, nakakadeliver naman sila ng accomplishment kasama ‘yung iba pang kasamahan niya na intel,” she said.

Asalan said that the incident is under investigation emphasizing that they are not going to tolerate such act.

“Hindi po natin tino-tolerate ‘yung mga ganyang activity lalo na sa rank ng Penablanca Police Station na aking nasasakupan. So ganun din po sa lahat ng mga kapulisan, ‘wag na po natin gawin ito kasi ito ay isa sa internal cleansing ng PNP na hindi talaga pinalalagpas [‘yung] mga ganitong illegal activities ng ating kapulisan,” she said.

“Lagi pong pinapaalala sa ating mga kapulisan na, kaya nga po tinaas ng ating mahal na pangulo ‘yung sahod ng bawat isang pulis para hindi na tayo ma-involve sa ganito,” she further stressed.
