Manila, Philippines - The Department of International and Local Government (DILG) expressed delight with the result of the Gallup Poll particularly the international survey on peace and order aspect in which the Philippines ranked 12th with other countries among 144 surveyed.
DILG told in a press release on Tuesday that the government is now even more committed in maintaining their efforts on their fight against crimes and drugs.
DILG Secretary Eduardo M. Año said that the 84% rating garnered by the Philippines in the survey is a proof that the government is winning the fight against criminality and drugs and that the people is recognizing the the significant accomplishments of the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies.
The Philippines was given a score of 84 alongside with Australia, New Zealand, Poland and Serbia. The highest score was earned by Singapore with 97, while Afghanistan got the lowest with 43.
“Itong 84% rating na nakuha ng Pilipinas na kumakatawan sa tiwala ng mga Pilipino ay magsisilbing inspirasyon at hamon para sa pamahalaan,” he added.
He also said that their goal now is to sustain said rating in the long run for more secured Filipino citizens and a safer Philippines.
The survey conducted from October 8 to October 24 in 2019 according to the report found that at least 80 percent of 2,090 Filipinos interviewed face-to-face or 8 out of 10 Filipinos felt secure, based on their own experiences with crime and law enforcement.
Questions asked during the survey include their confidence in their area/local police force, safety when walking alone at night in the place where they live, if crimes against the property had been committed against them in the past 12 months, or if they had been assaulted or mugged in the past 12 months.
Año then commended the efforts of law enforcement agencies which include the police officers, LGU enforcers and barangay tanods, among others, for their contributions in making streets safe and secure which resulted to the good standing of the country in the survey.
According to him, the outcome of the survey showed that people see and recognize their sacrifices and hard work, especially in the middle of the pandemic where thousands of cops and soldiers were inflicted by the Covid-19 virus.
Año said that that the result of the survey of Gallup, being an independent and unbiased international firm means that “there is excellent work being implemented by the national government and its instrumentalities” on peace and order in the country.
“Ito ay tagumpay po ng bawat kawani ng pamahalaan, lalo na ng PNP at iba pang law enforcement agencies. Atin pong ipagpatuloy ang ating pagtatrabaho para sa bayan,” the DILG secretary further told.
