Pinukpuk police puts up community pantry

Updated: Apr 23, 2021

Pinukpuk, Kalinga ̶ Inspired by the community pantries being set-up all over the country, personnel of this municipality's police station put up one today, April 22, for the community to get the goods they need.

Chief Municipal Community Affairs Development Division, Police Executive Master Sergeant Lea Dimas said that the personnel pitched in for the pantry with the initial plan to cook arozcaldo for the public.

“Iti first a pinanunut mi agluto kami iti Arroz Caldo and then nagpanunut kami pay alangen met a lugaw lang so dapat may kape rin. At tsaka may mga grocery items like sardines, toothpaste, sabon la unay kasi isu iti kailangan, asin, soy, sugar, and noodles,” she said.

Since it was raining, the pantry was placed at the police station in Barangay Taga. Dimas added that the display and the food were consumed in one day.

This initiative of the police, she said, is another way of showing compassion and care to the people experiencing the impact of the health crisis.

“Iti kapulisan iti Pinukpuk nga idadaluan ni Police Major Julio Nalliw ket naayat a tumulong lalo tatta a pandemya. Isu nga open latta met iti kapulisan, nu anya man iti problema kasdiay ket naayat kami latta met a tumulong lalo tatta a pandemic,” she said.

Meantime, Dimas said that the community pantry will probably again re-open next week at their office. Stakeholders, she said, are welcome if they wish to give their share to the community pantry.

The now famous community pantry was first started in April 14 by the Maginhawa Community pantry and just like domino effect, it spread all throughout the country with people building their own as a way to help those who are in need during this pandemic.
