PLGU Apayao allocates P10M initial funding for CARAA Meet 2024

Luna, Apayao – Being the host province of this year's Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet, the region’s biggest sporting event in the Cordillera, Apayao, through its provincial government unit, has earmarked P10 million as initial funding for the event.

This was disclosed by Apayao Provincial Administrator Atty. Edmar Pascua during the Kapehan sa DepEd held on Friday, February 23, at the Clubhouse of the Apayao Eco-Tourism and Sports Complex.

If there is a need to augment said funding, Pascua conveyed the provincial government’s preparedness to allot additional budget.

The funding would add up to the P3 million allocated budget by the Department of Cordillera, bringing the event’s total funding to P13 million.

The event had been scheduled to take place from April 15–19, 2024.

As relayed by the Apayao Provincial Information Office, more or less 8,000 student-athletes coming from various provinces and cities of the region are expected to gather in Apayao for the said activity.

To recall, the province had been given the chance to host a new sporting event following the approval of DepEd Cordillera Regional Director Estela Leon-Cariño.

This year would be the province’s third time hosting the event, with the first having transpired in 2013 and the second hosting in 2019.

In 2023, Baguio City hosted the esteemed event where the province of Apayao delegates were proclaimed the first runner-up, trailing behind the host city.
