PLGU launches Mother Earth Community Plant/Tree to ‘grow food’

Updated: May 15, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga - Instead of the usual foods pantry, the province’s First Lady Dr. Ana Lua Tubban with the Sanguniang Panlalawigan spouses and Natividad Sugguiyao gave out various seeds and plants to encourage the public to ‘grow food.’

Dubbed as Mother Earth Community Plant/Tree, the event was held at the Capitol Plaza today, May 14, with the mothers from the provincial government as participants.

According to Dr. Tubban, the initiative was conceptualized for the Kalinga women as part of the Women’s Month Celebration last March, but did not push through due to restrictions and measures brought about by the pandemic.

In her message, Dr. Tubban highlighted on how the people could take advantage of Kalinga’s ‘blessed’ soil that contributed much to the economic progress of the province.

“Ang aim po ng programa na ito is, for us to explore our fields and our blessedness na makaka-create ng food sa table natin by planting trees. This is the moment na we should appreciate what we have. Napakaswerte natin here in Kalinga na, we have our backyards, meron tayong farms, na nakaka-ikot tayo kaya this is the right time for this event na mai-launch,” she said.

She also underscored the vital role of women in the province’s various endeavors as she expressed appreciation for their contributions in the family and communities especially during these times of trials and economic difficulties.

“Hindi lang po ito para sa aming mga first ladies kundi para sa kababaihan na patuloy na lumalaban sa pandemya kasi napakalaki ng role natin sa family,” she said.

Sugguiyao, on her part, said the pandemic brought positive values among the people as manifested with the launching, where people willingly worked and donated for the event.

“What COVID-19 had brought us, is the value of sharing. Dagiti napipintas a values kasi dagituy a nai-lapag dituy, awan ti nag-solicit. Nagaramid kami lang ti group chat and then everybody contributed,” she relates.

She likewise hopes that the advocacy of growing foods will spread in other organizations, churches, and offices.

During the program, each of the mothers in the Provincial Local Government Unit was given two packs of seeds of their choice. They also had a chance to win different prizes through draw lots.
