Abra, Philippines – Determined to get answers on the killing of former Abra mayoral candidate, Dr. Amor Dait, Philippine National Police Chief, General Guillermo Eleazar has recently ordered the creation of a Special Investigation Task Group to thoroughly investigate the incident.

Dait, who is a resident of La Paz District Hospital and who ran for mayor in 2019, was shot inside her house in Barangay Poblacion, Pilar, Abra. at around 7:30 PM on Saturday, September 18.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds on her left foot. She was rushed to the hospital but later died.

In a statement, General Eleazar said he already tasked the Police Regional Director of Cordillera to create the task group to speed up the investigation in the interest of ‘truth and justice’.

“On behalf of the men and women of the PNP, ipinapaabot ko ang taos-pusong pakikiramay sa medical community at sa pamilya ni Dr. Amor Trina Dait. Tinitiyak ko sa inyo na personal kong tututukan ang kasong ito,” he said.

Eleazar directed the local police to coordinate with Dait’s family to check if the victim has been receiving life threats prior to the attack and also to determine if there are individuals who could possibly be holding a grudge against her.

The Philippine top cop also asked the public to inform authorities if they know anything about the incident or the assailants.

“This incident only encouraged us to be more aggressive in our campaign against private armed groups and loose firearms to ensure peace, honest and orderly conduct of elections in the next year,” Eleazar said.
