PNP Kalinga advises public to verify info before sharing as FAKE NEWS can cause unwanted alarm

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Netizens in Kalinga were shocked and alarmed on Friday night, October 04, about supposed consecutive killings in the province’s capital, Tabuk City.

A number of unverified information came out and circulated on social media, particularly on messenger, following the death of a 23-year-old man who was shot by still unidentified men in Dilag past 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

Among these is a photo of another man lying face down with gunshot wound. The man was said to have been killed in Bulanao on Friday afternoon and it was being linked to the case in Dilag. It turned out that the photo shared was a victim of a shooting incident in the past.

Kalinga police spokesperson, PCapt. Ruff Manganip told GURU Press Cordillera there was no shooting in Bulanao yesterday and that the information circulated was a hoax.

With this, the police official reminded the public to be discerning of the veracity of the information they came across with on any social media platform.

“Haan da mamati unless there is a report from the police,” he said.

Manganip likewise stressed the danger of sharing and spreading fake information, saying this causes more chaos and alarm to the public.
