Police General raised in Benguet is new PNP Chief

Benguet, Philippines – A three-star rank general raised in Benguet will be leading the 226,000 police force in the country after having been appointed recently as the new Chief of the Philippine National Police.


Police Lieutenant General Rodolfo Azurin was picked by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to be the 28th PNP Chief, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles announced this August 1, 2022.


Azurin is said to have been born in Paniqui, Tarlac but grew up in La Trinidad, Benguet.


The Philippine National Police, in a statement shared on their Facebook page, conveyed support to the new PNP Chief.


“Under PLtGen Azurin's direction, we assure the public that our police force will sustain its momentum to carry out PNP’s mission and to deliver its mandate with utmost integrity, credibility and professionalism, all for safety and protection of our Filipino people,” the PNP wrote.


Who is PLtGen Azurin?


Azurin is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy ‘Makatao’ Class of 1989.


The newly appointed Chief PNP is the current commander of the Northern Luzon Police Area which covers the Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Among his notable designations include being a commander of the Southern Luzon Police Area; Director of the Directorate for Comptrollership and Director of Information and Communication Technology Management at Camp Crame; Director of the Maritime Group; and Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1.


Azurin was also given the chance to serve the province he grew up in when he was appointed as the Police Provincial Director of Benguet.


After years in police service, he shall be taking the responsibility of leading the entire police force, replacing PNP Officer-in-Charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr.
