Police identify 6 suspects over killing of Aparri vice mayor, 5 others

Cagayan, Philippines – The Crime and Investigation Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police has identified the six suspects behind the fatal ambush of Aparri, Cagayan Vice-Mayor Rommel Alameda, says the Cagayan Provincial Information Office.

Alameda, along with his five security escorts and companions, was killed in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya on Feb. 19, 2023.

During the recent Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing, CIDG Acting Director, PBGen. Romeo Caramat said they already hold the evidence against the persons of interest (POI), including the POI’s exchange of messages with the hitman.

The police are eyeing business rivalry and the graft and corruption case filed by Alameda against the POI as motives behind the killing.

“Our person of interest is a politician also. I see we could solve this case 90% because I have already a complete data record, the conversations of our person of interest pati na yung sa conversation sa hitman,” said Caramat.

The acting CIDG director added they have located the suspects and are monitoring them while waiting for the order.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, PBGen. Samuel Nacion named one of the suspects, Darren Cruz Adorbo, the alleged owner of the Mitsubishi Adventure used by the gunmen as a getaway vehicle. A case against Adorbo has been filed before the National Prosecution Service.

The identities of other suspects are yet to be released, pending their arrest ordered by Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa who chairs the said senate committee.
