Pres. Marcos leads relief distribution in Bangued, Abra

Abra, Philippines – Super Typhoon-stricken Abrenians received relief and cash assistance from the national government today, July 29, 2023.


The Province of Abra has been severely affected by the strong winds and heavy rains brought by Egay last week of July which prompted the declaration of a state of calamity in the province on Friday, July 28.


As of 12:00 noon this Saturday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Cordillera reported there are 74,879 families or 252,408 people affected by the typhoon in Abra and that 357 houses were totally damaged while 7,848 were partially destroyed.

To help the people cope with the devastation brought by Egay, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. together with Senator Imee Marcos and DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian led the distribution of aid from the national government to the constituents.


Among the assistance include P5.62 million worth of aid from the DSWD, food packs, food and non-food items, gallons of water, and hygiene kits.


For the Province of Abra, Marcos handed P20 million in assistance to Governor Dominic Valera.


Other provinces affected by the super typhoon like Benguet and Mt. Province likewise received P10 million each from the Office of the President. The aid was accepted by Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas and Mt. Province Governor Bonifacio Lacwasan.

The president assured the public particularly individuals who lost properties, livelihoods, and even loved ones to Egay that the government has already prepared everything they need, the Philippine Information Agency Cordillera cited.


“Kaya kami nandito para tiyaking na maayos ang takbo at magbigay ng instruction para maging maliwanag kung ano ‘yung dapat nating gawin,” he was quoted saying.
