Preventing fire is better than extinguishing it-Mayor Gumilab to public

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Mayor Sacrament Gumilab underscored the importance of fire prevention, stressing that people should not take this for granted even when they don’t live in congested areas where a fire could easily spread.

The mayor made the statement during the Fire Prevention Month culminating activity of the Bureau of Fire Protection on March 30 at MHotel.

Gumilab acknowledged that fire is among the essential elements of human beings saying, “we cannot live without fire. Fire is a necessity in our everyday life, even in love life, we need fire. We need that blazing passion of love.”

Just as fire is essential to life, he added that it is also destructive. This fact, however, is often overlooked by the people in the province.

“We, here in the Cordillera especially in Kalinga, much more in Tinglayan, people don’t put so much importance on fire prevention. Why? because they don’t feel the need for it because they have not witnessed so much conflagration in our municipality,” he conveyed.

Gumilab reminded it is better to be proactive and prevent a fire incident than to extinguish a burning structure.

“Remember, prevention is better than cure. It’s really hard to address fire when it is already blazing or raging,” he reminded.

As he lauded the efforts of the BFP personnel in educating the people on fire prevention, he assured that the Tinglayan Local Government Unit will do its part as the agency’s partner in promoting the prevention of fire incidents in their area of responsibility.
