Was there police inaction in Cordon, Isabela shootout?

Updated: Jan 23, 2023

Cordon, Isabela – The police in Region 2 warned the netizens anew to avoid spreading on social media any unverified or false information so as not to cause tension among the public.

This is following the circulating reports on a shootout between a mining company and farmers in Cordon, Isabela.

Earlier, AlterMidya tweeted an article headlined, “Private army ng Golden Summit Mining Corp. The same content was posted by Danggayan Cagayan Valley on Facebook.

In his press statement released on Friday, Jan. 20, Acting Regional Director of Police Regional Office 2, PBGEN. Percival Rumbaoa belied the news, affirming equal recognition, and peace and security remain to be their top priority.

Accordingly, PNP Cordon immediately responded to verify the call they received from concerned residents, reporting a shooting incident in Mount Tapaw, Purok 1, Barangay Anonang, Cordon.

The police discovered the incident stemmed from a land dispute. The land being farmed in the said area has a pending resolution from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in San Isidro, Isabela regarding the Forest Land Grazing Lease Agreement beneficiary.

Further, the alleged armed group was later found to be security guards tasked to secure the area.

As of press release, the police are monitoring the place to gather more information.
