Conner, Apayao - As the authorized agency in charge of government surveys, the Philippine Statistics Authority will be conducting one of its major surveys called "Census on Agriculture and Fisheries" (CAF) through the Apayao Provincial Statistical Office, which was planned to commence on September 4, 2023.

According to the agency, the CAF is a large scale government undertaking that is geared towards the collection and compilation of basic information on the agricultural and fishery sectors in the Philippines.

The data gathered shall be used for developmental plans, policies and other programs and projects to be formulated in the desire to improve the industry.

Said survey will likewise identify agriculture and fisheries facilities and services in the barangays.

Geoffrey Calimuhayan, Chief of Statistical Office Apayao, said the survey is conducted every 10 years, which covers all households and non-households with agricultural, aquaculture, and/or fishing operations.

During his meeting with the officials and heads of Conner LGU this August 10, 2023, Calimuhayan relayed that the survey shall be administered through a sampling method.

It is a kind of data gathering wherein only a portion of Agriculture and Fisheries operators are to be enumerated, without compromising desired results.

He further emphasized that to ensure consistency, the office will validate and verify the gathered information.

This 2023, it will be the seventh of a series of decennial agricultural censuses and the sixth of the decennial census of fisheries in the country.

Calimuhayan said, "Once the data have been consolidated and finalized, these shall be turned over to various agencies to be used by both national and sub-national government for development planning purposes.”

So far, the survey has been coordinated with the Municipalities of Calanasan and Conner, gaining their support for its implementation, while the other municipalities are yet to be reached later this August.
