Public warned over distribution of fake medicines

Mankayan, Benguet – Cordillera police warned the community to be vigilant in buying medicines, following the arrest of a man selling fake antibiotics, pain relievers, mucolytic, and paracetamol in Mankayan, Benguet.

Police Regional Office-Cordillera, in a press release, revealed that the suspect Edilberto Tomenio Traboco, commonly known as Edel, 41, was arrested on February 23, 2022.

This is after the implementation of a search warrant issued by Mankayan Municipal Trial Court at Traboco’s residence in Barangay Bulalacao, Mankayan, Benguet.

Confiscated items from the suspect were 74 boxes of counterfeit brands of medicines.

The suspect will face charges for violation of Republic Act 8203 or the Special Law on Counterfeit Drugs.

Meanwhile, Chief of Philippine National Police, General Dionardo Carlos stated ‘the PNP’s intensified crusade against hoarders and peddlers of counterfeit medicines is fully in line with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s pronouncements of going after criminal groups taking advantage of the Covid-19 situation in the country.’

“We are gaining ground in this drive and we shall not rest until all these criminals are brought to justice,” added Carlos.
