Pudtol, Apayao celebrates 68th Founding Anniversary – from rebel infested to multi-awarded town

Pudtol, Apayao – Mayor Hector Reuel D. Pascua praised LGU officials and personnel for the positive changes of the town as he recalls the dark beginnings and its transformation during the 68th founding anniversary celebration of the municipality held at the New Evacuation Center in Poblacion, Pudtol on December 5.

Some areas of Pudtol were once a part of the territory of the communists during the 1970s to the 80s, where fear and poverty reign.

Nevertheless, with the separation of Kalinga and Apayao in 1995 and the dedication and commitment of Apayao leaders to push for progress and eliminate insurgencies, Pudtol grew into a progressive municipality. It is now one of the multi-awarded municipalities of Apayao, with recognitions at national levels.

Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua, during the celebration, urged the local leaders and the people of Pudtol to continue the town’s pursuit by exemplifying oneness and shared responsibility.

“This is my last celebration with our founding anniversary as your mayor.  Whether you like it or not, I will not be the mayor anymore (after 2025 elections), but we hope that whoever the next leader, nu siasino man, sapay kuma ta agkakabsat tayo latta. Itultuloy tayu dagiti napintas nga narugyanan tayu, para iti irarang-ay ti ili tayu,’’ Pascua said.

In his message, Pascua shared success stories reflecting on the significant milestones and transformations of the town from its past.

Earlier this month, Pudtol was reclassified from Fourth to Second-Class Municipality – a proof of the improved lives of residents.

Recently, three major awards have been conferred to the LGU to include the Subaybayani Award, the Seal of Good Local Governance, and the Gawad Kalasag award for three consecutive years – this time Pudtol has earned the highest distinction as ‘Beyond Compliant’.

Mayor Pascua attributed all the achievements to the collective efforts and services of municipal officials and personnel, private and organizational partners and other stakeholders.

“Our success as a municipality is attributed to all the efforts of everyone. Dahil sa inyong tatag, talino, at sa inyong enthusiasm at yung paniniwala ninyo sa totoong pagsisilbi sa bayan, nakamtan natin ang mga ito,’’ he expressed.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to each and every one of you for all the success stories that we have for the municipality, sana ipagpatuloy parin natin ang magandang tradition ng pagiging successful na bayan upang maging halimbawa sa iba,’’ Pascua added.

Pascua’s term as the Mayor of Pudtol ends next year.

Mayor Pascua concluded his speech challenging the audience to carry on the advocacy of Building Pudtol’s legacy of Progress – embodying ‘Harmony and shared responsibility {as} key to Development and Prosperity’ (HRDP).
