Pudtol, Apayao – In order to strengthen the disaster response of the Municipality of Pudtol, Mayor Hector Pascua with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Office (MDRRMO) led the conduct of a four-day Basic Incident Command System (ICS) training from July 29-31, 2024.

Pudtol is one of the municipalities of Apayao which has a history of flooding and experiences in typhoon-related disasters, including damages to houses and displaced households.

Twenty-Five (25) Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Council (MDRRMC) members of Pudtol participated in said training to acquire crucial knowledge and skills in the operation of ICS and in understanding its framework.

Others who were in attendance at the training were LGU officials and employees, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel, Philippine National Police (PNP), and representatives from private organizations.

This initiative aims to equip the local responders with the crucial expertise to be able to respond and manage emergencies and ensure the safety and well-being of people in the community.

One remarkable purpose is to systematize disaster management and response and to implement an ICS-integrated organizational structure in collaboration with emergency and frontline personnel and other government agencies.

Among the simulation training discussed and conducted are ICS organization and staffing, organizing ICS, managing and assessing incidents and events, organizing and managing resources, and formulation and demonstration of an Incident Action Plan.

Pascua, in his talk, affirmed his full support to all the participants who are not only able but willing to sacrifice their time and effort to master the basics of ICS.
