Pudtol, Apayao – The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) prepositioned 1,521 family food packs ready for distribution to possible families to be affected by Tropical Storm Kristine.

Recently, the MDRRMO visited flood prone areas and checked the water levels along with PNP, BFP, and DSWD-SWAD (Apayao) Personnel.

LDRRMO Katrina Visitacion said disaster and response teams are already prepared for the typhoon should weather situation gets worse. Monitoring shall be done by the involved offices periodically.

She also informed the water level has not yet reached the critical level, and there hasn't been any report on any incidence relating to the typhoon.

Visitacion added the Operational Center in the barangays, especially the seven flood prone barangays and one landslide-prone in town, have been activated and ready to respond.

“Manipud pay idi Monday, nagconduct Kamin it itin PDRA, with Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua, nakareadyn dagiti OPCEN iti barangays, kangrunaan dagiti pito nga barangays – Cabatacan, Imelda, Alem, Capannikian, San Antonio, Cacalaggan, and Mataguisi," related Visitacion.

Cabatacan, Alem and Imelda are at risk of flooding due to proximity to Santa Maria Creek and Malunog River. The same Barangays, including San Antonio, Mataguisi, Capannikian and Cacalaggan, are prone to flooding, especially when there is a backflow of water. This happens when water level from the Apayao - Abulug River rises to critical level.

Approximately, 2,060 individuals who are at risk to be affected reside in these areas.

The MDDRMO reminds and advises residents to be vigilant and stay informed for updates. If an orange alert in water level is announced, people in the area should prepare for evacuation. Red alert means everyone is forced to evacuate for their safety.

Mayor Hector Reuel Pascua, meantime, urged the public to adhere to directives relating to the typhoon to mitigate casualties and prevent damages to properties.
