P246M FMR in Aguinaldo, Ifugao expected to speed up development

Updated: Sep 8, 2023

Aguinaldo, Ifugao – The quality of the ongoing improvement of the Ubao-Manaot farm-to-market road is assured with the regular joint inspection of the offices concerned.

The P246.31 million worth subproject is the first and biggest project awarded to Aguinaldo town by the Department of Agriculture under its Philippine Rural Development Project.

The improvement of the 8.397-kilometer road, which forms part of the highway linking the villages of Ubao and Monggayang, officially started on October 27, 2022, for the production of Cardava bananas in town to get a boost.

Aside from improving accessibility, and reducing travel time and post-harvest losses, the road will likewise serve as an alternative route to and from Alfonso Lista, Ifugao, and other nearby towns.

To ensure everything goes according to what was planned, the DA-PRDP’s Project Support Office and Regional Project Coordination Office – Cordillera, along with stakeholders, have been regularly conducting joint inspections.

On August 30, the offices, joined by representatives from the municipal government headed by Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr. and the project contractor, conducted the same to check on the status and assess ‘if all items in the scope of work and timeline are met and all necessary steps are carried out to ensure smooth project implementation.’

As of said day, the teams recorded 22.73 percent physical progress of the Ubao-Manaot FMR.

With the aid of the community and local officials, the project is being eyed for completion by October this year.

Once completed, around 446 households within the road influence area are expected to benefit from it.

Mayor Chilagan reiterated his call for the community to help ensure good quality of the farm-to-market road which will not only boost agriculture industry but the municipality as a whole.
