Rape emerges as primary focus crime in Kalinga for first quarter of 2024

Updated: May 20

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Among the ‘eight focus crimes’ monitored by the Kalinga police for the first quarter of 2024, rape topped the list.

The so-called eight focus crimes of the Philippine National Police include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft, and motorcycle theft.

In the first quarter of the year, authorities recorded 17 incidents of said crimes, with rape having the highest number with six cases. This is followed by murder with four incidents; then physical injury and theft with three each; and robbery with one.

The number of the focus crimes documented from January to March this year, meantime, is lower by 45% compared to the 31 incidents for the same period in 2023.

The decline is attributed to the continuous patrolling of the police and the transition in the deployment of personnel.

The downtrend of crime in Kalinga goes with the number monitored in the entire Philippines from January to April this year. During said period, PNP data revealed a decrease of 19.5% in the eight focus crimes in the country.
