Rape tops index crimes in Kalinga for 2020

Updated: Jan 7, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Rape tops the list of index crimes committed in Kalinga province in 2020 with 16 incidents recorded, according to data released by the Kalinga Philippine National Police.

Based on the data provided by the KPPO, there are 60 index crimes or crimes against a person and against property recorded. This is 26.83% lower compared to the 82 incidents in 2019.

Though rape decreased by 38.46% from the 26 incidents in 2019, it remains the most committed crime, followed by robbery and physical injuries.

KPPO Director PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong said that one of his goals for 2021 is the reduction of rape cases. Although the rate dropped, the number of cases is still high, he said.

“I hope nga iti maireduce tayo tatta ket daytoy rape ngay ... haan la unay nga nagreduce iti rate na, isu iti maysa nga concern ko,” he said.

This is what the PNP Kalinga are going to look into, he related, since cases do not happen in one area only and that incidents are sometimes committed by own relatives and neighbours of victims.

Meantime, Limmong added that when it comes to over-all picture of the crime volume and situation in the province “all other crimes, minimal met iti crime tayo.”

Rape has always been controversial in the country.

Recently, alleged rape-slay of a 23-year-old flight attendant, Christine Angelica Dacera, circulated in the social media. It was reported that the lady was found unconscious in a bathtub in her hotel room where she and friends celebrated New Year.

She was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by the doctors. 11 men were charged of the crime and nine of them are still at large.
