Reopening of BS Psychology at KSU sought

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga students will no longer have to leave the province to enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Psychology with the proposed reopening of the course at Kalinga State University.

BS Psychology was first offered at KSU, then KASC, in 2000. However, after the pioneer batch graduated in 2004, the program was frozen in the school year 2004 – 2005 due to a few enrollees.

Now, two decades after it produced its first batch of graduates, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) is pushing for the reopening of BS Psychology and the addition of the course to the college's existing programs.

During the public consultation on January 16, it was presented that the proposed curriculum for BS Psychology at KSU will cover a total of 165 units, including basic education courses and electives, basic courses, required courses, psychology elective series, natural science electives, physical education, and the national service training program.

The reopening of the Psychology degree is projected to add 10 percent to the current student population of CLASS, which is 944.

After the public consultation, the proposed unfreezing of the course will be submitted to the Commission on Higher Education. After CHED notation, it will be subjected to the approval of the board.

If BS Psychology is approved, the course will be available in the first semester of the school year 2024 – 2025.
