Rebel couple who ambushed soldiers in Ilocos arrested in Tabuk


Tabuk City, Kalinga – A rebel couple who were accused of killing and wounding soldiers in Ilocos Sur earlier this year were arrested in Barangay Calanan on Thursday, November 11.


The couple identified as Denver Fernandez Ladawan, alias Rabbit/Jang, and Rica Padalla Llanes, alias Ilang, were charged with murder and frustrated murder.


According to Kalinga Police Provincial Office, Ladawan and Llanes who are members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla (KLG) AMPIS under the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee (ICRC) were the ones behind the attack of Private Shymie Reyes and Private Raphael Maskote on January 22, 2021 in Quirino, Ilocos Sur.


Reyes was killed in action while Maskote was injured during the 40-minute gunfight and encounter with the rebels.


On October 22, the warrants of arrest against the two suspects were issued by the Regional Trial Court, First Judicial Region, Branch 25 in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur. The court has recommended no bail for the murder case while P200,000 for the frustrated murder.

On November 11, the operatives successfully served the suspects’ warrants of arrest in Calanan. The two were brought to the custody of the 53rd MICO-5th MIB of the Philippine Army prior to their turn over to the court.


Meantime, the two arrested rebels have also been included in the list of Periodic Situation Report on Threat Groups of the Mountain Province and Ifugao Police Provincial Office.
