Rebel from Kalinga arrested after Balbalan armed encounter

Balbalan, Kalinga – A middle-aged man who was among the rebels encountered by the authorities in Balbalan was brought to police custody on March 16.

The arrested rebel is a 51-year-old native of Mabaca, Balbalan, according to Kalinga Police Provincial Office.

He was captured by the military at the vicinity of Sitio Dusok in Gawaan, Balbalan on March 14 while the government troops were conducting a clearing operation.

Said clearing activity was made following the gunfight between the military and the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla – Baggas and Regional Sentro De Gravidad-Ilocos Cordillera Regional Committee on March 9.

A Cal. 45 pistol and a hand grenade were likewise recovered from him.

Around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, the suspect was turned over by the military to the Balbalan Municipal Police Station for filing of appropriate charges.

From March 09 to date, there were two rebels killed in the armed encounters in Balbalan.
