Ifugao, Philippines – A member of the Communist Terrorist group was killed during an exchange of fire with the army in Barangay Namal, Asipulo on May 29, 2022; this is the third armed encounter that transpired between the two groups since May 23.

The 5th Infantry Division informed that the 5-minute gunfight between the rebels and the army happened in Sitio Binangyuyaw, Barangay Namal Sunday afternoon while the government forces are still conducting a pursuit operation against the weakened Guerilla Front-AMPIS.

Lieutenant Colonel Franz Joseph Diamente, the commander of the 54 Infantry Battalion conveyed that the identity of the slain rebel is still being verified.

"We are saddened that another CTG member was killed in a firefight. Despite our call to them to return to the folds of the law they still chose to revolt against the government because of the wrong ideologies that they believe," he stated.

As recalled, the first armed encounter in Barangay Namal happened on May 23 and was followed by another on May 24. These resulted to the confiscation of various anti-personnel mines, riffles, and other belongings of the CTGs.

On May 26, the troops discovered Avelino Cruz, the Vice Commanding Officer of Front Operational Command, Guerilla Front Abra-Mt. Province-Ilocos Sur who was left by his comrades.

Cruz was seriously injured and the army provided him a first aid before they rushed him to the nearest hospital.
