Returning families in Aguinaldo, Ifugao get fresh start

Aguinaldo, Ifugao – True to its aim, Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) rekindled hope among families from Aguinaldo Ifugao who tried their luck outside the region but decided to come back home.

Launched at the height of the pandemic, the BP2 program of the government provides livelihood, settlement grants, transitory shelter assistance, and psychosocial support for individuals and families returning to their home provinces. It intends to decongest Metro Manila and promote development in the regions amid the pandemic.

Since 2020, the program has been helping hundreds of family recipients through its key agency implementers - the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health, Department of Agriculture (DA), and Department of Trade and Industry, among others.

Zerah Puguon, for one, from Aguinaldo town of Ifugao is now reaping the benefits of said program.

Zerah and her family tried to venture in Muntinlupa but with the adverse impact of COVID-19, they decided to go back home last year.

With DSWD’s Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay – BP2 Program (KKB-BP2P), the Puguon family received P50,000 capital under the agency’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and P38,000 Transitory Support Package (TSP).

They made use of the livelihood assistance to put up a sari-sari store, while they utilized the transitory package for their basic needs such as food, bill payments, and the like.

On Thursday last week, June 22, 4 family beneficiaries were given LSP and TSP by DSWD, in partnership with the local government unit of Aguinaldo led by Mayor Gaspar Chilagan Jr., through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.

The aid was handed over to recipients at the Senior Citizens Building of the town.

Mayor Chilagan Jr. encouraged other families affected by adversities in the urban areas to return home and avail of the government assistance that can be accessed through www.balikprobinsya.nha.gov.ph.

Interested families may also contact the DSWD via the email address balikprobinsya@dswd.gov.ph or call the hotline (02) 8952-0697 or (02) 8931-8101, local 513.

Applicants may also visit the BP2 Depot along Agham Road corner Quezon Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City.
