Lubuagan, Kalinga – Rural Health Unit of Lubuagan has made a move to ensure adequate blood supply following the discovery of dengue virus carrier mosquitos in the municipality, a part of the LGU’s proactive measure.

The RHU conducted a blood donation drive at the Barangay Health Clinic of Mabilong on July 19, 2022, to add the unit’s 48 packs of remaining blood stock.

Nurse Ceasar Manalwap explained there was a shortage of blood supply because bloodletting activities were canceled during the height of Covid-19.

For this reason, there is a need to store more blood, especially since dengue cases in many areas in the country saw a dramatic increase these days.

During the said blood donation drive, a total of 11 donors gave blood after undergoing the necessary assessment.

Manalwap thanked the donors and encouraged others who are qualified to join their next bloodletting activities.

While donating blood saves a life, he said that such activity is also beneficial to the donors.

This is because an underlying health condition could be determined through the screening done by the health personnel during the activity which provides early detection and treatment of illnesses.

Manalwap is hopeful there will be more people donating blood and an adequate supply in the municipality.
