Rider dies after crashing into ‘kuliglig’ in Tabuk City

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Another life was lost due to a road crash incident at Mapaoay, Ipil on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2023.

The casualty was a married man from Solana, Cagayan. He was identified by the police as Rey Cauilan Corpuz.

Police investigation disclosed that Corpuz was riding a Yamaha Mio together with his 44-year-old back rider, heading to Solana from Bulanao.

Upon reaching Mapaoay, however, the motorcycle crashed into the right side of a ‘kuliglig’ coming from Madopdop, Lacnog, and was heading to Mapaoay. The 'kuliglig' driven by John Galwed, 57, was described to have already executed a left turn towards his destination and was at the center of the national highway when the accident happened.

The impact of the collision caused the motorcycle to tumble on the ground while the other involved vehicle overturned.

Corpuz and his back rider were rushed to the KPH. Unfortunately, the rider was declared dead on arrival at the hospital while the back rider was discharged after a medical examination.

Galwed, on the other hand, was brought to police custody but was later released after an amicable settlement with the casualty’s family. The farmer willingly extended assistance to the Corpuz’s kin.
