Rider killed in road accident caused by stray cattle in Sta. Ana, Cagayan

Updated: Sep 13, 2023

Sta. Ana Cagayan – While most accidents are caused by speeding and intoxication, an accident along the national road in Casambalangan, Sta. Ana that killed a rider and injured another individual was caused by a stray cow.

The victim and his back rider were traversing said road on a motorcycle around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 05, when the accident transpired.

Accordingly, they came from Gonzaga and were heading in the north direction.

While on said road, the cow suddenly dashed across the street, causing them to hit it.

The impact of the collision resulted in the back rider falling off the motorcycle, while the driver was thrown a meter away on said road.

Responding authorities ferried the two to the Sta. Ana Community Hospital, but the driver, named Eddie Mario Villa, 48, was declared dead on arrival.

The back rider, Joel Tolentino, 20, is now in a stable condition.

Police relayed that cow owners in the area were called for a meeting regarding the incident, and during said meeting, at least ten people agreed to contribute financially to give it to the victim’s family.

None of them, however, admitted to owning the stray cattle.
