Man's head run over by passenger bus in Cagayan

Peñablanca, Cagayan – A rider died instantly after his head was crushed by a passenger bus along the road in Barangay Alimannao, Peñablanca, Cagayan on January 9, 2023.

PNP- Peñablanca said they were notified of the unfortunate accident around 7:00 AM on said date.

Upon arriving at the scene of the incident, police saw the rider lying on the ground, bathing in his own blood. The victim was not named by authorities as per the request of his family.

In their investigation, police have known that the bus was heading to Isabela State University to pick up passengers.

While on said road, the driver named Theonel Agustin from Maddela, Quirino overtook the Black Mio 125 motorcycle, causing the rider to fall from his vehicle.

CCTV footage showed the wheel of the said bus run over the victim’s head resulting in his immediate death.

"Double yellow lane kasi yun, ibig-sabihin bawal pong mag-overtake sa both lanes, pero nag-overtake po yung bus at doon nga po hindi niya natantiyang nasagi niya po yung motorsiklo po (ni manong Ben) at yun nga po nawalan (nag-stumble) po siya at napatumba hanggang sa nasagasaan po siya nung bus," PMAJ Harold Ocfemia of PNP-Peñablanca relayed.

"So ang tama po niya, immediately kasi yung ulo po yung natamaan though naka helmet po siya, sa bigat po nung bus nawasak po yung helmet po at nadali po ang kanyang ulo kaya naglabasan po yung mga laman ng kanyang ulo at yun po yung sanhi ng pagkamatay po niya," he added.

With the accident, PMAJ Ocfemia is reminding drivers to be extra careful when driving and follow traffic laws and regulations to avoid such untoward accidents.
