Road mishap in Pasil kills husband and wife, injures 2

Pasil, Kalinga – 2 people died and one injured in a road accident in Balinciagao Sur, Pasil about past 4 in the afternoon of March 5, 2021 after the van they were riding fell off a ravine with a depth around 500 meters.

There were six passengers in the van including the driver.

Pasil Municipal Police Station investigator PSMS Valentin Puya-ao, in an interview, identified the casualties as Marilou and Daniel Minong, a husband and wife, both farmers, and residents of Balinciagao Norte, Pasil.

Meantime, the driver Edmar Baddongon and another passenger Jerry Baddongon sustained injuries from the accident although they luckily made it alive. The other two passengers, Jhonred Dawaton and Mark Arel Lapitan, were unharmed since they were able to jump off before the van fell into the ravine.

Cause of the accident

Police Senior Master Sergeant Valentin Puya-ao said the van was traveling from Balinciagao Norte, Pasil and was traversing the national road towards Lubuagan when the road accident happened. He said upon reaching the area in Limood, Balinciagao Sur the van suffered mechanical defects losing breaks while descending.

“Statements dagiay daduma a passengers, na lost break kanu diay lugan,” said PSMS Puya-ao.

Due to the speed of the descent, the driver lost control over the vehicle until it swerved to the left shoulder of the road and fell into the gorge approximately 500 meters deep.

The couple, unfortunately, were declared dead by the attending physician at the scene. They were later brought to TAMPCO Funeral for postmortem care.

Meanwhile, the driver, Edmar and one of the passengers Jerry were rushed to Kalinga District Hospital in Lubuagan and after a time were transferred to Kalinga Provincial Hospital for medication. They are now in a stable condition.

The investigator said that the van involved in the accident was totally wrecked.

The accident is the second VTA recorded in Pasil for 2021

Based on the record of Pasil Municipal Police Station, this is the second vehicular traffic accident in the Municipality of Pasil for 2021.

The first road accident happened last January, “self accident and the victim sustained injuries ... he was brought to RHU – Pasil and naka-survive siya and nag-recover,” said Puya-ao.
