Sabangan makes historic win in Mt. Province provincial athletic meet


Mt. Province, Philippines – For the first time in Mt. Province's athletic meet history, Sabangan was proclaimed the overall champion.


From being a 5th placer in the 2019 Provincial Athletic Meet, the delegates this year snatched 93 gold, 55 silver, and 54 bronze medals to win the first spot.

Bontoc, the former champion, ranked 2nd this year with 65 golds, 53 silvers and 32 bronzes.


Besao, on the other hand, rose from 7th placer to the third spot with 30 gold, 18 silver, and 18 bronze medals.


Bauko I settled as 4th placer with 29 gold, 26 silver, and 40 bronze medals; Paracelis as 5th with 21, 25, 22; Tadian as 6th with 17, 14, 8; Bauko II as 7th with 14, 23, 17; Sadanga as 8th with 12, 10, 21; Barlig and Natonin as 9th with 9, 26, 25 and 9, 26, 12, respectively; then Sagada with 7, 4, 8.


The winning municipality, which clinched first place both in the elementary and secondary level, sought help from previous athletes in training their delegates this year, as relayed by one of the coaches - Dyan Clifford Balanggi in his interview with a local media.


With the theme, “Raising Above Adversity: Overcoming Challenges Through Sports,” the 2023 Provincial Athletic Meet gathered 924 athletes from the 11 districts of the province. The delegates competed in 14 sporting events from April 14 to 16.
