Sta. Marcela LGU trains youth leaders on governance and better public service

Santa Marcela, Apayao - The newly appointed Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) secretaries and treasurers across the 13 barangays of Santa Marcela underwent substantial mandatory training on January 19 at the EKB clubhouse in the municipal ground.

The training aimed to equip these SK officials with crucial information and skills related to performing their functions as appointed youth leaders in their respective communities.

The activity focused on the discussion of vital service-related topics, including Decentralization and Local Governance, SK History and its Salient Features, Meetings and Resolutions, Planning and Budgeting, Basic Principles of Bookkeeping, and Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards.

Supervising Administrative Officer Oscar Ramos Jr. explained that participating in the mandatory training will help the youths internalize their role in nation-building, providing fresh perspectives and energy to drive economic development and social progress.

He added that as agents of change, the youth are expected to provide support to local communities while exemplifying the values of patriotism, nationalism, and the honor of being Filipino.

Alongside the event was the oath-taking ceremony administered by Mayor Evelyn Martinez.

In her message, the mayor emphasized that the core of being a leader is influence.

"To have a transformative impact on your peers, you as leaders should act as role models worthy of emulation," the mayor stressed.

She noted that this symbolic gesture marks the commencement of their commitment to public service.

Meanwhile, resource speakers in the training included Municipal Local Government Operation Officer (MLGOO) Mary Beth Micu, SB staff Aprille Mariano, MPDO planning assistant Oscarlito Tactac Jr, Fiscal examiner Jenny Cagat, and Municipal SK Federation President Ruth Ann Grace.
