Santa Marcela LGU ensures blood reserve for its residents, conducts bloodletting drive

Santa Marcela , Apayao - In observance of this year's 124th Phil. Civil Service Anniversary, the Municipal  Health Office (MHO) on Tuesday, September 3 held a bloodletting drive for LGU employees, collecting 65 bags of blood containing 500cc each bag.

Said initiative was done in partnership with the Apayao Provincial Health Office (PHO) and the Far North Luzon General Hospital and Training Center (FNLGHTC), and was the highlight of the opening of the monthlong celebration of the PCSA.

Provincial Coordinator of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program Manny Nicolas said that its primary objective is to ensure that there is sufficient blood reserve for residents should emergencies happen.

Nicolas explained that "having enough blood supply is important, especially during emergencies, hence a regular blood donation drive is necessary. Without available blood in blood banks or storage facilities, operations or surgeries could be delayed and put patients’ lives in danger."

"I encourage the potential donors to donate blood, kung sa tingin niyo ay healthy kayo, basta ang weight niyo ay 50 kilos and above, Walang tinetake na gamot, no fever pwede kayong magpascreen. I hope that the initiative will encourage more individuals to donate blood especially to the public servants to give more blood to the patients," Nicolas added.

Carrying the theme 'Every Drop Counts', the blood letting drive witnessed the participation of 65 individuals who voluntarily joined the noble cause of saving lives through blood donation.

Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez, along with Vice Mayor Rolly Guiang, previously reiterated the significance of said program in improving the overall health and well-being off constituents, while securing an ample supply of blood. They urged residents to get involved and be part of saving many lives.
