Santa Marcela LGU launches "Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas Program"

Santa Marcela,Apayao - Anchored in the government's goal of fostering a safe and clean environment, the Local Government Unit of Santa Marcela launched 'Kalinga at Inisyatibo para sa Malinis na Bayan,' dubbed as "KALINISAN," across all 13 barangays of the municipality on January 6.

As a result, the cleanup drive led to the accumulation of 997 kilograms of garbage and trash. Of this amount, 82 kilograms were collected from identified sites near the municipal surroundings, while 915 kilograms were collected from the 13 barangays.

Aligned with the administration's vision of a Bagong Pilipinas, this endeavor calls for intentional transformation in all sectors of society and government.

The Kalinisan program specifically aims to raise awareness and encourage participation among Filipino citizens in environmental responsibility through proper solid waste management. It also aims to encourage local government units to invest in programs, projects, and activities on solid waste and ecological practices, as well as to establish a recognition system for the cleanest local government units.

In a memorandum circular released by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on January 3, all regional, provincial, and municipal officials were mandated to spearhead and ensure its implementation in their respective jurisdictions. The newly elected and appointed barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials were also urged to participate in this initiative.

Mayor Evelyn Martinez stated that the initiative is an effective measure to mitigate environmental issues caused by improper waste disposal. She reiterated that the joint effort of LGU employees, PNP and BFP personnel, the Philippine Army, barangay councils of the 13 barangays, and volunteer workers has made a significant impact, making each community a healthier place to live in.

Furthermore, Mayor Martinez encouraged residents to engage in regular cleaning activities, not only within their homes but also in the community surroundings, to maintain cleanliness and prevent potential illnesses.
