Scent-tracking dogs deployed for missing Isabela Cessna plane in Sierra Madre

Isabela, Philippines – Six trained scent-tracking canines are set to be deployed in Sierra Madre mountain ranges to help look for the Cessna plane which has been missing for 17 days now.


Dogs are said to posses up to 300 million olfactory receptors and their ability to analyze scents is at least 40 times greater than human beings. Trained ones have been helping rescuers search for missing people who might have drowned, buried, and lost.

Incident Management Team – Isabela spokesperson, Joshua Hapinat confirmed they coordinated with a group from Sto. Thomas, Batangas for the deployment of tracking dogs. The group, composing of 12 handlers is expected to travel to Sierra Madre in Isabela today, February 10.


Meantime, on February 8, Philippine Coast Guard divers searched the water near Maconacon Airport after the Philippine Space Agency sent a satellite image of a white object at the area. The divers, however, found nothing.


It was last January 24 when the Cessna plane with tail number RP-C1174 was reported missing after it failed to land in Maconacon, Isabela.


To date, there are already around 300 individuals who are looking for the aircraft in Sierra Madre.
