School Head in Baguio drowns while saving a teacher’s child

Baguio City, Philippines – This year’s holiday celebration will be a bit different for the family of an elementary school head in Baguio City who drowned while saving her colleague’s child.

Initial report said the School Head and other teachers of Bakakeng Elementary School, along with their family members, went to a beach in Bauang, La Union for an outing.

While there on Friday, Brigette Galong spotted a child drowning. Without hesitation, she jumped into the beach to rescue the youngster, who survived.

Galong, however, was unable to battle the current herself and drowned.

The fatality was a resident of Kalkalan, Pinsao Proper, Baguio City.

The Schools Division Office of Baguio and the city government ‘join the community in mourning the untimely demise’ of Galong.

“Our prayers for the repose of her soul and for strength and guidance for her family and loved ones,” stated the city government.
