Scientific, technology and innovation project eyed in Tinglayan, Kalinga

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A possibility for Tinglayan to benefit from a scientific, technological and innovation (STI) literacy project was hinted by the Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO) – Kalinga.

Tinglayan municipality, in a press release by the office on Sunday, January 22, is eyed as a recipient of a project aimed at increasing the scientific and technological literacy of learners.

The project proposal is titled "Advancing the Scientific and Technological Literacy of Learners in Tinglayan, Kalinga as an Economic Development Strategy". This will get funding from the agency through the Local Grants-in-Aid funds of PSTO-Kalinga.

As a start, the office visited 2 schools in the municipality– Dananao Elementary School and Buscalan Elementary School from January 18-19, 2023.

The visit targets to assess the schools for the possible deployment of Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk System (STARBOOKS) in said schools as one of the components of the proposal.

STARBOOKS is a stand-alone information source that operates even without the use of the Internet.

The office claimed that the system ‘is an effective platform to support basic education in areas where access to books and internet connectivity is limited.’

Apart from the project proposal, STI projects seen to boost the tourism industry of Buscalan are also being considered by the agency.
