Baguio City, Philippines – Young individuals engaged in agri-business in the region are encouraged to join the on-going Outstanding Kabataang Agribiz Business Models of the Department of Agriculture-Cordillera (DA-CAR) through its Agribusiness Promotion Section (APS).
The competitive financial grant assistance program is open for ages 18 to 30, natural born Filipino, in school or out-of-school youth, preferably with experience or related training in agriculture and fishery and those ready to venture in agriculture and fishery business enterprise
Said competition is part of the Young Farmer’s Challenge Fund program intended to encourage the youth to engage in agriculture and agri- fishery enterprises.
DA-CAR reports that as of Friday, May 28, 2021, around 112 young Cordillerans have already applied for the search.
Interested youth, either individual or groups are required to pass proposed Business Model Canvass (BMCs) business ventures with profitability potential.
Submission of documentary requirements is from May 12 to June 15, 2021.
Stages of the Competition and prizes
The competition shall be in three stages from provincial, regional and national level.
The first stage shall be the selection of the best BMCs at the provincial level where 50 winners will be chosen in the region and shall be given agribusiness development services with financial grants amounting to P50, 000 per youth beneficiary.
The agency reports that an orientation will be held on the first week of June to be followed by the screening of the requirements among the applicants and selection of the top 50 best innovative BMCs in the region. The winners shall advance to the next stage until the finals.
From the 50 winners, three provincial awardees shall be selected and will be nominated at the regional level wherein three will be chosen and will receive additional P150, 000 financial grant per enterprise.
The three selected individuals will then compete at the national level, and at this stage, winners shall be given P300, 000 financial grant per enterprise.
There shall be six competitors that will be declared as Outstanding Youth Agri-business models.
In the agency’s press release, Agribusiness Promotion Section (APS) Head Jocelyn Beray informed that those BMCs which will not be selected will be linked to other DA-related programs such as the DA-Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC)-Kapital Access for Young Agripreneurs (KAYA) Loan Programs, among others.
Application Procedures and Requirements
To apply, applicants must submit all requirements to the DA-regional field offices. They are also encouraged to submit on-line through the concerned office designated email accounts or any online platforms created for the cause.
Application requirements include Business Model Canvass, 2x2 photo and scanned or clear copy of at least one valid Identification card and copy of the proof documents that he/she has agriculture and fishery experience or related training/education.
