Old man found dead in Lubuagan creek on New Year's Day

Lubuagan, Kalinga – A senior citizen from Lubuagan was already lifeless when they found him lying in a creek on New Year, January 1, 2023 in Barangay Dangoy, Lubuagan.

The 63-year-old farmer is the first casualty reported this year.

Lungao Alyong went to Sitio Sayuk in Barangay Dangoy to check on their carabao around 12:20 noon on Sunday, Kalinga Police Information Officer, PCapt. Ruff Manganip told Guru Press Cordillera.

When it got dark, however, the man was not able to return home which prompted his family to proceed to Sitio Sayuk to look for him.

When they couldn’t find the victim, the family sought the help of the community. The people in Dangoy searched for Alyong at the creek after they saw the latter’s boots and umbrella in the area. They also found traces of the victim’s footprints at the other side of the stream.

It was around 10:30 p.m. when they found Alyong lying in the creek, approximately 20 meters from where they saw his footprints.

It is believed that the man drowned due to the strong water current caused by the heavy rain.
