SIM registration aids investigators - PNP Cordillera

Updated: Jan 24, 2023

Baguio City, Philippines – Registration of Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards helps investigators trace those behind cybercrimes, investment scams, and frauds, says the Police Regional Office of Cordillera.

Deputy Regional Director for Operations of PROCOR PCOL Ronald Gayo expressed support for such implementation requiring end-users to register with mobile service providers as a prerequisite to activation.

Efficient resolution of SIM-aided crimes like text scams, and spam messages, among others, will be made possible with the registration act, the police believe.

“Online scammers, yung mga nagbibigay ng threat, kasama na din siguro dito yung extortion. Napakalaking bagay and more or less immediately identify the user ng cellphone na ito and eventually ang kwan lang naman diyan is identification, easy identification ng number and user ng cellphone,” said Gayo.

As of January 15, more than 20 million SIM cards were registered nationwide.

Subscribers who are having a hard time registering may contact Hotline 1326 for necessary assistance.
