Six barangays in Tinglayan compete in Search for Healthy Barangay: Sustainability Category

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Six barangays in Tinglayan are competing in this year’s Search for Healthy Barangay – Sustainability category.

The Search for Healthy Barangay- a competition aimed at promoting ecological solid waste management in the municipality started its edition this year with visitation and assessment of chosen evaluators.

It has two categories, and one is the sustainability category which is dedicated to previous winners in said competition for the last five years or more. It assesses whether these previous winners have sustained their best practices that made them the winners from 2018-2023.

Information Officer Larae Lactao, in an interview, disclosed said the six barangays include Barangay Ambato, Luplupa, Poblacion, Lower Bangad, Old Tinglayan and Ngibat.

While Ambato was not part of the list of winners in the annual municipal search, it represented the municipality in the previous years at the provincial level, even garnering the first spot, alongside Ab-abaan, Balbalan during the 2021’s Provincial Search for Healthy Barangay in 2021- Sustainability Category.

As of this writing, the evaluation phase is ongoing. The latest barangay visited is Barangay Old Tinglayan.

The evaluation phase requires evaluators to personally visit the locality’s 20 barangays and grade them in terms of good governance indicators and service delivery indicators. The first indicator equates to 36 percent while the other is equivalent to 64 percent.

Winner of said competition shall be receiving prizes in the form of grants or community development projects. Awarding of winners is scheduled December this year.

Winners in the municipal level, as disclosed by the information officer, will be Tinglayan’s representative during the Provincial Search for Healthy Barangay – the competition where the contested activity was patterned.
